The language of the elves is from the Lord of The Rings, invented by J.R.R. Tolkein. Here's how to write in it.

edit Steps

  1. 1
    Learn the Elvish alphabet

  2. 2
First, write your name. Let's use the name "Robert" as an example.
  3. 3
    Substitute the elvish letters.
  4. 4
Shift the vowels up and to the left, so they are above the letters they follow.
  5. 5
Substitute the letters using the alphabet provided.
    • You can see that there are two forms for the letter R. One is for the R sound as in RED. The other is for the R sound as in CAR.
    • The name ROBERT starts with the R-as-in-RED sound and near its end it has the R-as-in-CAR sound.
  6. 6
    Here's the text notation.
    • .....OE
    • _ RBRT _

edit Tips

  • Practice. It takes time to learn this.
  • This is a very limited and literal method.
  • Try shortening your name to just its sounds before you use this key. For example, "walk" would be "wok". "Monique" would be "mo nik".
  • Tolkien developed this from the sounds in language, not just a different way to write English letters.
