Learn about computers. The field is constantly in motion. You can never stop learning. Even after your land a job in the Computer field you have to stay current.
    • A college education is not absolutely necessary, but it is highly recommended.
    • Keeping up with Digg and Slashdot can help you keep on the cutting edge, or reading stuff from Information Week or PC Magazine.
  3. 3
Start doing small side jobs. When your neighbor or relative has computer troubles, ask them if they need help. You don't always get paid for the fixes, but the references that they provide to others and the experience you gain can be priceless.
  4. 4
Take on larger side jobs. Once you have gotten to a point where people know you as a "Computer Guru" then local small businesses will start to consult you to setup and manage their networks and computers.
  5. 5
Network your sources. Now is when you use all the references and the previous experiences to show a larger corporation that you can handle what ever they throw at you.
